Sell For Free

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how BidDown LLC ("we," "us"), the company behind Sell For Free, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Sell For Free marketplace.

Information we collect

Account information from Clerk (name, email, profile image) when you sign up; listings, bids, and purchases you create; your zip code, if you post a listing (used to show your listings to nearby buyers — see "Location data" below); payment and membership information processed by Stripe (we don't store your card details); the follows, want-list entries, ratings and comments, and buyer terms you create; the messages you send about an order and, for sellers, the shipping checklist you record; the support requests you send (your messages, and any order you attach); your phone number, only if you choose to verify it (see "Follows, want lists, ratings, and order records" and "Phone verification" below); and usage data such as pages viewed and actions taken on the platform.

Location data

If you post a listing, your zip code is saved to your account so nearby buyers can find it under "Near You." Your zip code is never shown publicly on a listing or your profile — it's used only for that matching. If you're browsing, entering a zip to see listings near you stores it only in a browser cookie on your device, not on your account — we don't know it unless you've also posted a listing yourself.

Follows, want lists, ratings, and order records

Who can see what: when you follow a seller, they can see how many people follow them but never who. Your want list is private to you; sellers can see which items several different buyers want, as counts only, and never who wants them. Ratings and comments you leave or receive are public on the store and listings of the person they're about, credited to your display name or username. Messages about an order are visible only to that order's buyer and seller. They can't be edited or deleted by either party once sent, and either party can download a record of the order and its messages, including any shipping checklist the seller recorded (the seller's own statements). Emails about follows and want lists include a one-click unsubscribe link.

Phone verification

Phone verification is optional. If you choose it, we send your phone number to Twilio to text you a code, and we store the number so we can confirm it and prevent the same number from being verified on more than one account. We never show your number to other users or send it to your browser. Other users see only a "Phone verified" badge. You can ask us to remove your number by contacting us below.

How we use it

To operate the marketplace: creating your account, posting listings, processing bids and Buy It Now purchases, processing membership purchases, and maintaining marketplace security. We do not sell your personal information.

How we share your information

Other users can see information that's inherently public on the platform: your username (or display name), your store page, the listings and bids you make, and the ratings and comments you leave or receive. We share information with the service providers listed below so they can perform services on our behalf, and may disclose information when required by law or to protect our or users' rights and safety. If BidDown LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Service providers

We rely on Clerk for authentication, Supabase for data storage, Stripe for payments, Resend for emails (notifying you of things like an outbid alert, an answered question, a completed sale, or new listings from sellers you follow or matching your want list), Twilio for the optional phone verification texts, Vercel for hosting, and Google for analytics (see below). Each processes data under its own privacy policy and security practices.

Cookies and analytics

Sell For Free uses cookies required for authentication and session management (via Clerk), plus a first-party cookie that remembers the zip code you enter for "Near You" browsing (not tied to your identity or account, and never sent anywhere but back to us). To understand how the site is used, we use Vercel Analytics (cookieless; it counts page views and referrers in aggregate) and Google Analytics. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and collects things like the pages you visit, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and your approximate location, which Google processes under its own privacy policy. We've turned off Google's advertising features (Google signals and ad personalization), so this data isn't used to target ads to you, and we don't use any third-party advertising cookie. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Your privacy choices

You can request account deletion by contacting us below. We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use interest-based advertising on Sell For Free. Some browsers let you send a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal; we currently don't respond to Do Not Track, but if we ever do sell or share personal information as defined by state privacy law, we'll honor Global Privacy Control as a valid opt-out. Some information (like transaction records) may be retained as required by law.

State privacy rights

If you're a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Nevada, or Indiana, state privacy law may give you additional rights over your personal information: the right to know what we've collected, the right to access a copy of it, the right to correct inaccuracies, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising or certain profiling. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising or profiling today, so most of these opt-out rights have nothing currently to opt out of, but you can still exercise your right to know, access, correct, or delete by contacting us below. California residents can also reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 N. Market Blvd. Suite N112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or (800) 952-5210. We may ask you to verify your identity (typically from the email on your account) before acting on a request, and reserve the right to decline a request where state law permits.

Data security and retention

We rely on our service providers' security practices (Clerk, Supabase, Stripe) and access controls to protect your information, though no online service can guarantee perfect security. We retain account and transaction information for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with legal, tax, and dispute-resolution obligations after that. Order messages, shipping checklists, and ratings are kept with the order they belong to so that both sides have a record. If you delete your account, we remove your personal details, your follows, want list, store customizations, support requests, and any verified phone number, but may keep those order records without your name.

Children's privacy

Sell For Free requires users to be at least 18 (consistent with our Terms of Service) and is not directed at anyone younger. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we've collected information from a minor, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
